The Value of Volunteering

There are plenty of ways to get involved at Yeovil Country Park. Opportunities for volunteering include practical habitat management and park maintenance, species surveying, litter picking and fundraising at our community events. Our volunteers join us for all sorts of reasons: to keep fit, to learn about wildlife, for the social element, to do their bit for the local community, to look after a place they enjoy and love and to have fun

Let's Discuss

What opportunities are available

At Yeovil Country Park the Countryside Rangers lead two regular practical volunteering sessions a week.

Wildlife Volunteering

All Ability Volunteers

Monday 1pm to 3pm;

A Ranger led volunteer session focussed on carrying out lighter practical tasks such as litter picking, shrub and flower border upkeep and footpath maintenance.

Practical Volunteering

Practical Volunteers

Thursday 10am to 3pm;

A Ranger led volunteer session which involves harder physical practical tasks such as fencing, woodland management, scrub management, tree planting, hedge laying and much more.

You do not need to have any experience to join in, just a willingness to get involved and a passion for nature. The volunteer tasks are physical in nature so you will need to have a fairly good level of fitness.

Contact the rangers on [email protected] if you would like to discuss volunteering with the ranger team.

Work Experience

The small ranger team do take on some work experience placements. Secondary school placements are usually for a week and College placements for a day a week across an extended period of time. We are unable to accept more than one placement at a time. If you are interested in a work experience placement with the team please email us on [email protected] attaching a CV and letter explaining why you would like to experience working as a Countryside Ranger.

Testimonials

"Great satisfaction"

Being a Volunteer Park Ranger, gives me a great satisfaction. It is obvious that our ‘small’ efforts are positive, and well received by the users of the park. The improvements in facilities and general appearance move the park attract a large number of park visitors from all age groups, many of whom stop to chat and express their gratitude.”

Roger Mowbray, Volunteer

"Camaraderie of the Volunteer Ranger"

I have been a volunteer for about 4 years.  Ninesprings Country Park is a diverse and beautiful park, a haven for wildlife and a place for all ages to decompress when things are tough.  Being a volunteer gives me the chance to give something back to the community, in return I enjoy the camaraderie of the Volunteer Ranger group working with dedicated park staff and meeting the public who clearly appreciate what we do for them!

David Furby, Volunteer

"It's also great fun"

“I like to think that volunteering at Yeovil Country Park is part of my fight against globalisation, climate breakdown and biodiversity loss by helping improve things locally. It’s also great fun.”

Ian Slade, Volunteer

"Excellent crew"

"As a kid my mates and I have played in nine springs making dens, charging around, damming up the streams, swinging from the trees on rope swings and generally enjoying life. Putting something back into the park is a privilege, love Thursday's working with an excellent crew”

Roy Worth, Volunteer
